The Ficus, or Asian fig tree, is very strong, produces beautiful aerial roots and has an interesting speckled, grooved bark.

The Ficus Retusa has smaller leaves, making it ideal for bonsai cultivation. The species is exceptionally hardy, tolerates slightly less light, and is very leaf-hardy. Water less in winter. In the Far East, this tree species grows to enormous sizes, and children play among its root systems. These root systems develop when the aerial roots touch the ground and thicken. Trees from (sub)tropical regions are accustomed to more or less constant annual temperatures. Unlike trees from our climate, they don't require a dormant period with a drop in temperature and leaf shedding. This makes these species perfectly suited for indoor cultivation. In the summer, when temperatures exceed 15 degrees Celsius, they can also thrive outdoors, for example on a patio. Generally, they will thrive better outdoors in the summer due to the better climatic conditions (humidity, light, and fresh air).
