The Bonsai Shop opened its doors in January 2004, making it the first bonsai store in the Netherlands to focus entirely on online sales. The store is now a collaboration between Bonsai Empire, an informative website with bonsai information, and Lodder Bonsai bv.
The two faces and driving forces behind the webshop are Oscar van Bonsai Empire and Gerrit van Lodder Bonsai. Oscar has been very active online for over 25 years with the website Bonsai Empire, which has grown into a global platform for bonsai enthusiasts to share knowledge. Gerrit Lodder has been active in the bonsai world for decades, and his wholesale business and nursery supply thousands of trees annually to enthusiasts and professionals. Workshops and events are also organized on site, and bonsai clubs from the Netherlands and abroad are regular guests. The online shop has a very wide selection of everything you need to pursue your bonsai hobby, and the nursery offers an even wider range of ceramics and trees.

Until mid-2025, the Bonsai Shop was a close collaboration between Teunis Jan Klein and Oscar, a partnership that endured for over ten years with passion and dedication. Teunis Jan passed away unexpectedly and very briefly after an illness. We are deeply saddened by the loss of this true legend in the bonsai world, who always shared his vast knowledge with others. His beautiful Deshima Bonsai is unfortunately no longer open to visitors.
