With akadama and keiseki, you can create your own blend that works best for your bonsai. For the Dutch climate, 70% akadama and 30% keiseki is recommended for deciduous trees and 50% akadama and 50% keiseki for conifers. This bonsai kit lets you experiment with different mixes, depending on your bonsai's needs.

Akadama is a volcanic red soil. Its granular structure allows it to retain moisture well and is highly permeable, reducing the risk of root rot. It is a neutral soil type, suitable for all tree species, especially deciduous trees. It contains no nutrients or trace elements. It is used in combination with Kiryu for conifers and junipers.

Keiseki or Bims provides extra air for the roots and is used for both deciduous and coniferous trees. It is creamy white in color.
