Origin: Japan

In Japan, Acer Palmatum is called Yama-momiji, which literally means "mountain maple." It originates from Japan and China. There are many varieties (cultivars) of the Japanese maple. Differences can be found in the color and shape of the leaves, the color of the trunk and branches, the type of bark, and growth habit. As far as I know, all species have palm-like, incised leaves (hence the name palmatum). Usually with five or more lobes, and depending on the species, the leaves are deeply incised with serrated edges.
